No, don't do that! T4 is much better for big street power.
I still have mine too and it will come back even better!

This weekend I disassembled the 2,2 T4 engine as I wanted to change the cam for this season.

Heads, Pistons, cylinders, bearings, crank, all looked great!

Unfortuneately, it turned out that one rod is bend! Look at the second rod from the left:


Anybody have a set of (used) Pauter rods for a 1,7ltr T4 crank I can take over?

I think you reached the stock rods limits!

I think it was because of boost-cut and heavy back-fires that caused this.
Stock rods can easily hold 500Nm, even more I think. Not big explosions from rpm limits and/or hard-cuts (fuel cut) on top of that.

Actually turned out 3 rods were bend...
No, not really. I had expected a little more power, so the piston not being straight in the bore must have been a problem, loosing some compression probably.



Fortunatly I found some Pauter rods as replacement

Yes, very lucky probably. I am still amazed that the aluminium cylinders survived and look like nothing ever happened. Even the piston ring-gap is still the original size.

Crankshaft is spotless and must be straight as all main and bearings were super nice as well:

I noticed this kind of "pitting" on my 2.4L engine, I assumed it was caused by harmonics due to a non-balanced trigger wheel, why do you think?
