It's an Ahnendorp Road Racing exhaust for type1. Far too large for this 1600, but I wanted to buy a good quality exhaust and together with some future plans I couldn't resist buying this exhaust already when I saw it for sale.

Picture from when I bough it. Right dummy pipe is removed and I had to narrow it a little bit, but it does fit, even with those wide tires.

Long time since my last message in this topic.

Several things have happened in the meantime though. When I made a testdrive the evening before the car should go to the "2-yearly technical inspection", the 1600 engine dropped the cyl#2 exhaust valve en totally destroyed the engine's internals. So I missed the inspection the day after and also the possibility to run the car at the racetrack a few days later. One week later I already mounted another 1600 engine and solved a ventilation problem with my 914 transmission (don't forget to move the ventilation output to the other side of the differential!, when doing a 914 conversion).

A couple of weeks later we were going to Das Drag Days in Germany with a couple of guys. But driving from the Netherlands to Bitburg, you are almost coming along the famous Nürburgring. We agreed to run some laps over there and continue our trip to Bitburg. It was the first time driving there for all of us, so we took it easy the first lap. Second lap we drove a little faster. Even with a 1600 engine it was so much fun! Many people do overtake you before the entrance of a corner, but in the corner these light bugs are so fast, it's unbelievable. Many fast production cars are wobbling through the corners with so much body-roll. Those bugs look much more stable. :)

Some pictures to give you an impression of our adventure.

Being chased by a M3 in a long corner.

More pictures can be found in the Nürburgring topic.

Hopefully more tracktime with this car next year!

I made some adjustments to improve the handling of the car. I gave the front some more camber and caster and removed the front anti-rollbar in order to let the rear handle more of the weightransfer and achieve less understuur. The car rolls a little bit more now, but handling is really nice and predictable. Will try to catch some thicker 944 rear torsionbars in order to increase the rear stiffness. And front (stock or 15mm Eibach) anti-rollbar will be placed back also, to retain the current balance.

Will take the car to the European Bug-In this weekend, to make some laps on the big slalom course!

I like your car, it's very simply and with much details.
Good summer with your kafer.
