Re: VWRX 1303 cab
At the moment I'm thinking something along the lines of the sketch below, made out of 40x60mm tube, that way I can make them suitable for the subaru engine mounts. I am making the new floor perimeter from the same tube so will tie it all in together, I think it will be nice and strong when I'm finished.
Wally, did you get reverse working properly in the end? I'm planning to keep the reverse switch so won't have the problems you did. It should be exposed between the two tubes of the new framehorns.
Rich
PS more pics of the swap are on my website...

Re: VWRX 1303 cab
Hi Rich,
Yes, reverse was found again and works fine and light now It turned out to be a stuck spring loaded ball in the internal gate shifter and/or a clearence issue with the linkage (not entirely sure as I worked on both at the same time).
Anyways, the reverse switch had noting to do with the reverse engagement/operation as such.
Bracing looks logical. Just a pity the subaru engine install made all this cutting and subsequent reconstruction work neccesary... (you know where its coming from )

Re: VWRX 1303 cab
Well good progress this weekend!
New brackets for the 911 front mount:
Getting the shape for the top of the new framehorns
No going back now!
The splines remade to fit further out inside the torsion tube, I'm using shorter swing axle torsion bars now
All welded in!
More progress during the next week or so, a full 4 days next weekend!

Re: VWRX 1303 cab
Been a while, it's now back on 4 (new) wheels!
Specs: Cayman fitment, 19" x 8,5J with 235/35R19 front tyres
19" x 10J with 265/30R19 rear tyres
Rear wings will need to be widened by about 45mm..
Ground clearance is really good!
8" to sill strengtheners and 6" to engine sump at ride height, I still have 4" ground clearance to the sump when on the bumpstops...

Re: VWRX 1303 cab
Some more of the recent progress:
Body modified to cover the front of the trans, this will fit under the back seat
Rear of body modified to access the engine, using a modified bus engine cover
I have now modified both rear wings by 45mm
I also built an enclosed engine air intake
Also made the new floors and painted the chassis, along with fitting a brake bias adjuster cable
Now I have to finish off the bodywork ready for painting this summer!

Re: VWRX 1303 cab
I will not be changing the colour, it is very rare and has grown on me a lot since I bought the car. Believe it or not it is called Schwartz metallic! I have only ever seen one other bug in this colour...
